This month on the SPACE podcast, Alejandro Escovedo explores the impact of the Mexican cartels on a young woman’s life in “Sally Was A Cop.” Sons Of The Never Wrong recall the heyday of the Chicago folk scene in the 1960s. Rising L.A. country singer Sam Outlaw previews a tune from his upcoming Ry Cooder-produced album. Songwriter Susan Werner taps into a long lineage of farm wives on her hilarious country-blues romp “Egg Money.” And Iowa folk singer Dan Bern performs the title track off his 2001 album, New American Language.
Listen to Episode 3 of SPACE Radio, Featuring New Music from Robyn Hitchcock, Noah Gundersen, Joe Purdy & More!
It’s NEW MUSIC TUESDAY and we’re hitting your inbox with a batch of previously unreleased tunes recorded right here in Evanston, Illinois, at SPACE. We’ve got a track from the sans-pareil British singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock, featuring the Australian singer Emma Swift. Rising Americana artist Noah Gundersen played a sold-out show on Jan. 30 and here he delivers a stunning live version of his song “David.” Arkansas songwriter Joe Purdy played two sold-out shows at the club in February, and here he performs his folk song “Cairo Walls,” while we’ve got some New York rock ‘n’ roll with Willie Nile, plus Chicago blues with Ronnie Baker Brooks. February brought the annual Mardi Gras festivities, so we decided to close the podcast out with The New Orleans Suspects doing Professor Longhair’s “Big Chief.” Enjoy!
