This Week at SPACE: Driftwood, Sean Watkins, Elvis Perkins, Tuck and Patti & More
It’s another great week of music at SPACE!
But first: We’ve got a couple new shows going on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. On May 18, the SPACE interns present Chicago jazz singer Lili K. On May 31, we’ve got New York City jazz-soul outfit The Rad Trads. Northampton, Mass., songwriter Heather Maloney comes back to SPACE to promote her new album, Making Me Break, on June 19. And perennial blues favorite Otis Clay returns with his incredible band on June 26.
Tonight, upstate New York folk group Driftwood will share a bill with Pacific Northwest folk duo Dave McGraw & Mandy Fer, who have a new album out called Maritime. Listen to the song “Compass” here. On Thursday, singer-songwriter Seth Glier headlines a triple bill that includes Traverse City’s The Accidentals and Ohio songwriter Rj Cowdery.
Singer-guitarist Sean Watkins (of Nickel Creek and Watkins Family Hour) will grace the stage for Friday’s early show. Listen to his recent collaboration with Fiona Apple. Friday’s late show brings Alabama songwriter Matthew Mayfield back to SPACE, with support from Chicagoan/Nashvillian Ryan Joseph Anderson (formerly of folk-rock band Go Long Mule). Mayfield’s new album is titled Wild Eyes. Watch the official video for the title track here.
On Saturday, Boston songwriter Ellis Paul will host a live album recording. Only a handful of tickets remain for that show, so get yours now! Saturday’s late show brings the critically acclaimed songwriter Elvis Perkins to SPACE. His new album, I Aubade, is a truly incredible slice of lo-fi folk-pop. Check it out.
Dar Williams fans won’t want to miss her headline appearance at our sister venue, Thalia Hall in Pilsen, on Saturday. Get tickets to the show here.
We’re very excited to bring husband and wife duo Tuck & Patti back to the club on Sunday. The duo’s longtime friend Vance Gilbert will open the show in what promises to be a very special evening for fans of jazz and beyond.
