Nate Herman

NATE HERMAN is a singer, composer, musician, actor, writer and director who has been active in Chicago and around the country since 1967, when he started his long association with The Second City (as cast member and Jeff Award winning director) and also put together the much beloved and influential band Wilderness Road with Warren Leming, Andy Haban and Tom Haban (Columbia and Warner/Reprise records). 

Officialy proclaimed “one of the funniest people in Chicago” by the Chicago Tribune (and they should know), Nate has written for National Public Radio (including a regular weekly topical humor piece for All Things Considered with partner Warren Leming), the National Lampoon Radio Show and for four grueling seasons on Saturday Night Live.

Jim Post, Steve Goodman, Sally Fingerette, and Joe Piscopo (among others whose names don’t sound quite as impressive) have sung and/or recorded his songs (I think Jim and Sally may have sung the same one, so that only counts as one entry).  Johnny Cash once asked Nate to send him a copy of one of his songs, but he (Nate) forgot to.

Nates songs (and the rest of him) have appeared in numerous Second City revues, on National Public Radio broadcasts, on The National Lampoon Radio Show, in National Lampoon’s revue Lemmings (at the Village Gate in NYC), on Saturday Night Live, and on/in stages, concert halls and clubs across the country. Nate was asked to audition for a nice role in a recent Coen Brothers film, but he forgot to. Nate currently heads the Comedy Writing Program at Chicago’s i.O. Theater where he has created (and hosts and directs) the monthly sketch show, Next Week In Review.

His voice has been called “beautiful”, his guitar playing “great”, his songs “brilliant” and “hilarious” and his wardrobe selection “eclectic bordering on dubious”. 

He will be accompanied onstage by his arthritis.
